"Swimming Backwards" an experiment

Ok, this is a really cool and fun song writing experiment.... Hear me out.

Adam and I were chatting today about songwriting and stuff and he mentioned to me that I should check out this interview on WFMU fm with Tommy James of Shondell fame. It's a great interview and dj piece that includes rare records of when Tommy was 13 years old. Anyway, Tommy talks about the songs "I think we're alone now" and "Mirage." Apparently, they were listening to the final takes of "I think we're alone now" on reel to reel and they had the reel on backwards so it played the song backwards. One of his bandmates noticed a cool chord progression and that evening they wrote "mirage" after hearing "Alone Now" backwards.
AWESOME! It's as clear as day when you listen to the songs back to back. Even some of the guitar rhythms sound like a backwards loop in "Mirage"

So I thought I'd try a little experiment tonight.

First I recorded a section of an Elephant Walk song "Swim the Sea" and reversed it. There is a lot going on and it is hard to decipher how to interpret it, but there are some backwards harmonies that seem to be pretty neat and usable in a future song.

So the next thing I did was record just a track of the acoustic guitar and reversed that so I could get an idea about a rhythm and chord progression. I decided from that take that the only spot that could be used as a future song that wouldn't sound like the original was the chorus. The verse goes back and forth from a C to an F and there are other notes in there, but when you play it backward it sounds... I don't know, too similar.

Then next thing I did was record just a vocal track of the verse or hook part of the song. Then I reversed that so I could hear what to sing.

I took a few listens and tried to translate whatever gibberish I could into English for some working lyrics to the new song.
I'm going to call the new song "Easy Lips" because you can hear me say that in there and I think that is a pretty cool song title.
Here is what I heard, click the link above and follow along:
"Yes Ma'am
I'm going by airplane
My ass is here right over each day-
Slow down the wildfire
in the blimp
Squeeze now my hand

in the air it is nothing
that you ain't seen
oh mushy mushy you must see it-
I heard I was
Easy Lippppppps
E nah Cinny E now
wob wob wob wob"

And then I took the two part I got, the guitar and new vocals and new lyrics and came up with this song.

And then I took that track and reversed it to see if it was even close to the original. The end of the new song resembles the original, but it's a long shot.

I'm going to try this again tonight.
