I'm a lonely porcupine and I've got the little unicorn blues like a dog on an airplane

Lonely Porcupine
oh I'm a lonely porcupine

I went to the bar last night with some friends, closed it down, came home and rolled tape. I made a medley of freestyle blues songs.
The first is called "I'm a Lonely Pocupine"
The second is called "I'm a Dog in an Airplane Blues"
And the third is called "Unicorn Blues."
They were all freestyles on the spot, and drunk, and charmingly stupid. They are also a blogger.com exclusive, so I guess that means no one will ever hear them. But if you do, you can hear it here.

Blog for the sake of Blog / Bridge for the sake of Bridge

It's 207 am on Monday, and I can't think straight nor sleep. I need a beer....Ah that's better... hey I'll write in this stupid blog. Nobody is reading at this hour (any hour) and it might make me feel better.
My girlfriend is mad at me. She said she doesn't want me to spend time writing music. She wants more time with me. I told her I spent a long time writing her a song, but she won't hear it. Man, this broke my heart. She doesn't like my directive of passion, and the way I balance my life and troubles through art makes no sense to her. I listen to her intently, try to figure out her needs, and adapt. Is this the curse of creativity? Or am I a jerk? I wish... I wish ...I just... just could get my point across.

There is a concept that myself and members of the Elephant Walk enjoy. It's called "bridge for the sake of bridge." It's a bridge that crosses nothing and is joined by nothing at either end. There is a couple of examples of them coming to life here in Milwaukee. One will appear in our music video, and our friends call it the "Lost Bridge." Along the riverfront on the north side of Riverwest, you can take a trail to see the lost bridge, but it's hard to find a trail that will lead you to it. Once on top of this massive structure, you can cross over the grass, that's it. There are no train tracks, no creeks or streams. Though I've discovered the hard way that there are several hornets nest below, this hardly seems to be a reason to build a massive bridge. But someone, several men, did it anyway. There is another one on the very north end of Veteran's Park along the lake shore by the yacht club too.
There once was a time when someone said
"I want to build a huge bridge, but hmmmmmm, there really isn't any reason for me to build it that I can think of,...maybe something will come up in the future that will force people to cross it like, say a photo op, or to get a nice view of the woods from a bridge, but that is irrelevant. I really just want to build a bridge for the sake of building a bridge. And I'll build it....right...HERE! Who's with me?"
"WE ARE!"
"Who said that?"
"It's us. Tax dollars, people who want to build bridges too, people who are bored. But hey, just one question...Why?"
"Ya know...Why does anyone build a bridge?"

Everything about that story is exactly how I feel right now. The people who want to create, the people who don't understand, and the bridge that goes nowhere that is there for the sake of it being there. Bridge for the sake of bridge. Great concept! It can represent so much, and so little. It is as deep as you want it to be. It is as shallow as you want it to be too.
